The HSBS hosted a sell-out day of inter-hunt polo at the Beaufort Polo Club at the end of July this year, where, following a champagne reception and delicious lunch, the Ronnie Wallace Memorial Trophy was competed for in glorious sunshine in front of a very large crowd.
A Beaufort Hunt team, with Matt Ramsden joined by Charlie Dando, Freddie Dear and Mark Tomlinson, took on the “Hunting All Stars”; Luke Wiles, Stephen Hutchinson, Master of the South Tyrone, Simon Holland from the Bicester and Ralph Richardson, new Amateur Huntsman at the Middleton. A highly competitive and entertaining match ensued, with the play of such high quality many spectators commented it was the best charity match they had ever seen, with five goals apiece – quite a feat considering that a number of the players were making their polo debuts!
A draw was a fitting end, with David Wallace presenting both teams with the Trophy commemorating his late father, Ronnie Wallace, before celebrations continued over tea.
With huge thanks to the players for agreeing to take part, the spectators for making the day and to the Beaufort Polo Club and Mark Tomlinson, without whose enthusiastic help and support this fundraiser would not have been able to take place.
